Drum sanders are great on floorboards. You sand along the grain. In Parquet, the pieces of wood are small and layed in different directions. A normal sander will ruin it, leave marks such as transition from where edger and drum meet, drum dwell-marks where you "start your line, and by the nature of both types of big machine, the harder knots will appear slightly proud of the softer surrounding grain.
The trio will achieve a perfectly level polished surface with no evidence of machines being used.
