Is linseed oil paint a crazy idea for a chicken shed?

Good God Joce - soft furnishings for walking Sunday roasts? Whatever next - you do know that "Pigs in Blankets" means a festive sausage & bacon nibble, don't you, and not duvets for porkers??!!

Try not to get too attached to the animals; they're not pets, they're food. And when you have livestock, you have deadstock - not getting too attached makes it easier to chuck the inevitable carcasses in the septic tank (sshhh, don't tell DEFRA!)

You do realise that in Act 4, Scene 3 of "Macbeth" when Macduff says

he is in fact talking about the murder of his Buff Orpingtons, only a bit of the scene got lost? His kids weren't half as nice as the chooks.

As for how chicken sheds were finished in the 18th C, perhaps one of our resident COs will enlighten? Certainly not Ronseal!

well, it's nineteenth rather than 18th century, and not painted, but the hen house at Tong in Shropshire takes some beating (and is inscribed with injunctions suchs as "scrat before you peck" and "teach your granny":

Some of you might like to see the new littluns. They're blue Orpingtons (apart from Clara, who's black) and between 9 and 12 weeks old. They take a year to reach maturity, which is about the size of a turkey.

BTW have I missed some obscure literary link, or are we talking the father of William Pitt's Foreign Secretary, and the MP for Tiverton in Devon? If so he was a Baron, I think... The Earldom was created for his son, Dudley.
