"light grey powdery stuff (easily scratched but quite solid and firm) "
I have figured out that this light grey one is fairly new - as there are some electrical cables encased in it. Is it likely to be polyfiller? It will either have been put there by a bodge-jobber or by a housing association - I doubt either would have used lime. Should I get rid of it?
I'm really debating whether or not to get rid of all the pink gypsum plaster as it is a large chunk of wall. Admitedly this part of wall was mentioned on the damp report as being 'of need of a DPC'... I haven't learnt to plaster yet and so feel that I ought to try my hand at small 'filler' patches first rather than land myself half a wall to mess up... I'm considering making the rest of the wall flat to the gypsum bit, decorating and see what happens... Maybe come back to it in 5 years when I've done the rest of the house and am expert in plastering...!
What do you think?
