Gosh, that's looking lovely PP The accessories/finishing touches make all the difference and I agree that it's right to inject a dash of another colour such as your blue vases and jardiniere. We need more than that sneaky peek of your window treatment though :wink:

Thanks Mims. The curtains don't photograph well, but I shall try. The area in the bay, and infront of the telly still looks a bit bare, and I think another chair would be good as we are struggling for seating when friends and family come over, so we could put the tub chair infront of the telly, and have another smallish chair where the tub chair is now. The bay is also a bit bare, apart from the curtains and a big palm. Still details to look at, but I'm happier to try things out now. Have you been watching the interior design challenge on TV? Is is very apparent that the contestants don't really look into the history of the building or get any inspiration from the building's past which they could do, even with a non period decor.

I am experienting a bit.

Given today's fashion for ghastly portmanteau words (eg: Brexit :evil: :evil: :evil: ), might I surmise that "experienting" is a cross between experimenting and orienteering? :wink:

Despite all your earlier worries about furniture, PP, the room looks great! It just goes to show what a bit of titivating with plants, ornaments and suchlike can do.

It is surely a mash up of experiencing and experimenting, which could be quite apt, as I experience the results of my experiments!

Yes, much better.
The vases bring a sense of balance and proportion to the mantelpiece. I think it would accommodate even taller ones.

Clever idea with the standard lamp, the width of a normal shade can be a problem.

Like the Edwardian tub chair. We had one similar. Their small footprint makes them a good option where stuffed seating is needed but space is limited.

Does that plant have a proper home when the fire is lit, or does it sort of get parked somewhere? We had plants near the bathroom fireplace, and I used to have to shuffle them around the room when I lit the fire. Parlour palms look quite good on the loo seat.

We no longer have any big lights, as in central overheads. They are indeed completely destructive of atmosphere. In our sitting room we have six independent fittings, from 25W to 60W.

Your room is beginning to be a real antidote to the ghastly modern white space.
