Trouble is, everyone's gone soft, these days. When I were a lad, we didn't have namby-pamby central heating, or yer poncy electric blankets. We put an extra blanket on the bed and got dressed before we got up. And we could write our names in the ice on the inside of the window.

Eee Penners. You had it easy!

We had to get up half an hour before we went to bed, eat a cup of cold gravel, go to work at mill and pay miller for privilege of working.

I think you'll find that should be "go to bed at mill and pay gas and electric company for t'privilge of not waking up frozen"

it might be damp you know. What's the pointing like?

Well, the pointing looks OK from ground level (to get to up there we need to be standing on the neighbour's roof, so a close look isn't that viable right now), but the 'table stones' (is that the right term?) are due to be replaced in Jan/Feb as they are staring to deteriorate. So, I guess there may well some moisture in there....

Other than letting it dry out naturally one the roof is fixed, is there anything else we can do?
