I had a look at Old Images of Ampthill and found photographs of the whole street dated about 1905. All the houses have lovely iron railings and gates which probably came from the old Ampthill foundry. One house still has them. There are 3 streets in the Town with the same architecture spanning 1860-1910. It occurred to me that there must have been a mass of builders all working frantically hard. The Georgian, all listed, parts of the town, where we at one time lived, evolved from the usual 16th century timber frames ending with the Georgian facades, so I suppose the builders had to find something to do!!!!!
Luckily we have some railings, plundered from a demolition in the town a few years ago, so hopefully there will be enough to sort out the front!
Funnily enough a lady that used to 'do' for me, used to work for the people who lived in 28 when it was still 3 houses, so I am sure she will tell me what it looked like originally.
