Thanks for your thoughts on that, John. Maybe I'll suggest that he should laminate up two thinner boards, with the grain at right-angles. That should reduce the risk of splitting.

Oh, I do, but I was told off by some so as a good girl I'm being gentle with them. Limiting myself. You don't have to read it if it makes you grumpy you know!
