i am beginning to think so my self Penners although we have only been looking at pine and elm as candidates , do we need to look at anything else do you think?

i wouldn't be willow would it? this place was well known for its willow trees. i am just stabbing in the dark here because i have no idea what willow looks like.

I haven't seen much willow, except in cricket bats. But what little I've seen I remember as being rather pale, bland and without much figure. Your piece seems to have very heavy colour and figuring.

We've got lots of willow and I've cut a fair bit of it down. Penners' memory clearly isn't as bad as he sometimes suggests because his description is pretty much spot-on.

It looks nothing like that Biff , it is similar to Matts photo but not quite.

That's Elm. Get it under a microscope and it would start to look like Biff's photo.

It looks similar to my floorboards, which I think are elm.

I'd plump for elm..........it looks more like elm.
