Next in importance was the 'party wall' between houses.

yeah,we have one of those on our gable end of one part of our house, ours needed repointing, when we had new flashing done because stupid prevouis owner thought cement would be good enough found out ours was on the move, still he rendered it seems fine. I just call it our little decorative wall, no help to you, just thought i'd reply

I've always called it the party parapet myself. Although strictly speaking a parapet normally protects an edge - which of course a mid-terrace one doesn't. I have also heard it called the fire wall, or a fire break, before.

If the original post was referring to the small area of wall that becomes exposed when building on a slope - I would call this an abutment.

A terrace of houses on a slope would be called stepped. If they also rake forward (or back) this is called a stagger. So terraces that do both are called stepped and staggered.
