I'm so glad you put in an Amelanchier - I do hope you'll like it. I reckon it's one of the best-value small trees, what with the spring blossom, summer berries and autumn leaf colour. Assuming yours is a normal Amelanchier Lamarckii then I wouldn't worry too much about keeping its soil ericaceous - the best of my knowledge it's pretty tolerant of most soils. The only things it doesn't like are extremes of dryness or sogginess.
