How do we date our house ?

Tried again with the highlighting quote but can't get that to work.

Excitedly tried to quote a few posts but it seems a bit hard. Also it only seemed to go to one page.

On other forums it is really easy to pick up quotes as you go along so they don't get forgotten.

Penners and Schoolmarm, I've also experienced the problems you speak of - but not consistently so. 9/10 times it works for the methods I described in my earlier post. Bloomin computers!

Don't go away Alex, it gets easier I promise. You can start off with short easy posts and work upwards to more complex stuff!

For me, the select a section of text and press quote doesn't work when reading the thread initially. It does however work when editing the post and selecting text and pressing the quote button in the post you are quoting below the edit box. If that makes sense....

If your house ,when built, was part of a bigger estate you will have extreme difficulty in dating it.IF this is the case you may have some luck if you search the records of that bigger estate that it belonged provided they recorded it.

If you do manage to get a date don't forget that they need "make over" not "leg over"

What have I done ? Look how many people have replied now when I couldn't even reply to the original, 8 was it ?
I went public and admitted to everyone that I lost my text of the bottom of the screen and I didn't have a clue about adding quotes and now everyone else has "come out" too.

At one time the house was on land that was rented from the landowner by the local ironworks and was repeately rented by different owners of the ironworks until 1924, when for the first time, it became owner occupied. So I will have plenty of reading to do at our local archive this winter, thankyou.
If this has worked i will be shocked. Answered Middi as he was on the same page, now all I have to do is answer the other replies on the page before :lol:

You can edit your earlier posts by clicking on the 'Edit' button to the right of your post title. Give it a try and add the [/quote] control as JohnB suggested.

You need to make sure that you have one [/quote] for each

. Green ones good, red ones bad. The first two red ones are superfluous as there's no text between them. Obviously you don't put a space between the t and e when you do it for real!
