House temperature without heating on

May I ask what is your monthly spend on gas, electric & water? And who are you with for your power?

About £65 per month for both gas and electricity. I'm on a tariff from Octopus that varies in price from day to day. Electricity has been as low as 11.6p and as high as 26.9p. Gas between 3.5p and 6p. But playing the averages game, it works out as 19.9p for electricity, and 4.5p for gas.
A better yardstick is actual consumption. Currently 2,000kWh for electricity and 2,800kWh for gas. Having a wood stove has helped to drive heating costs down so that would distort any comparisons on the thermal improvements I've made.

Have passivhaus spec Windows.
South facing so good solar gain for a few rooms.
Knowing what I know now would have done internal insulation in every room. Have no insulated external walls.

What’s the temp outside? I use it as the “baseline”. It was 2 degrees where I am and the temperature inside was 15 degrees in my bedroom (no heating on through the night). NW facing (so no sun in the morning). There is about 400mm of insulation above this room that we added recently.

My coldest room was probably 13 degrees (no loft insulation above it right now). My bathroom is absolutely freezing!! (It faces my side entrance that gets very little sun).

My sun facing rooms will probably be 17 degrees by lunchtime without heating lol but rapidly go down as it gets darker.

I do have a lot of draught issues we will fix next

May I ask what type/model you've got?

I've thought about getting one but am unsure about how useful the cheaper ones would be (eg smartphone add-ons) because the quoted resolution seems very low.

I bought the TopDon model which plugs into my phone. Resolution is good enough and have taken good pics of the dog so far

Now years ago I paid 400 quid for a thermal survey. A guy came from Oxfordshire. Was a cold day and was told to have heating on full in advance.
Guy turned up and guess what had forgot to charge batteries. Got some good pics but very small tbh.
Did not get the outside shot I wanted to see.
Had another similar survey earlier this year and yep low battery warning ahoy again
The images from the TopDon unit are way better than the ones the "professionals" provided.
Useful for electrical work as well.

What's the viable range of these doohickeys?

I'm wondering if an alternative use might be to keep an eye on the local wildlife around here - we have a couple of badger sets nearby and it always wise to know where they site their latrines.

Careful. Pointing a camera at a neighbours property might get you an entry labeled a Nosey Neighbour or worse.... a Peeping Tom!

I bought an Infiniray P2 Pro which has 256x192 resolution from one of the chinese resellers. Plugs into USB-C on your phone and you have to download an app for Android.

If any regular forum members would like to borrow it (you need an Android phone with USB -C) I don't mind posting it to somebody at cost so long as you also post it back and look after it (genuine deal, not a scam, won't ask for your bank details, etc) - but I just want to be happy that I'll definitely get it back and won't have to chase (penalty for failure to return will be asking a damp proof specialist to come and paint bitumen over your lower brick courses, which, as much as it might sound, isn't intended metaphorically).

Just PM me - if i don't reply it's beacause I've had too many messages and regretted my decision!!

It won't work with an Apple phone (I don't think, as it has an Android app)

That’s a very nice idea, but I already know ours would be doing its GII best to heat up the whole of Bath. We have done work on the windows but proper 21st century ones wouldn’t be allowed, so it’s heating on and many fleecy layers. Even afer being back in the UK for a while I still miss the warmth of Singapore, the reverse problem existed there, aircon was very electricity thirsty, but I only used it overnight and have resisted the temptation to continue the 30° daytime 24° nightime regime here.
