Very much down to personal taste. Ours was "The Birches" - that is what is on the original deeds, long before it became No. 61. The previous owners had the name
on a small, quite discrete stamped brass plaque on the (now gone) gate - the plaque being of the very aged brass look rather than polished shiny brass. I may well transfer it to one of the new gates, it seems a shame to let the original name lapse.
Our house was owned by the brewery that used to be behind us. In the 1930's the brewery owner built a pair of semi-detached houses for his sons at one end of the brewery yard - just to prove that bad taste is nothing new, he called the houses "Grahamville" and "Ronaldyne". Not surprisingly those names are no longer used!
