We're at 22 degrees C inside today.

At first I thought the cat had figured out how to work the heating controls, but it's looking more like one of the controllers has failed. Cat is on a slow cook setting on his radiator seat.

That's not to say of course that the cat hasn't worked out how to use the heating controls...

Cat seems to have hard wired the boiler on constantly. I've set the boiler temperature lower and will figure out what he has done at the weekend. Looks like another faulty zone control valve.

Just had to free mine up. after 15 years they are probably ready for replacing.

Easy way to check if they are stuck. Try the manual override lever, if there is no resistance or you cant feel and hear the motor zizzing, it will be stuck open.

Diassembly, a clean up and re-lubricating plus some working on the valve spindle has freed mine up enough to shut the boiler off even through the valves don't shut fully.

I think that is my trouble. My control valves are the old type where the head can't be replaced without draining the system and replacing the whole valve.

On my system the controller seems to open the zone valve which switches the boiler on once it is open. We've now got a very modern boiler. Are modern boiler control systems still triggered through the zone valves or is it the boiler that triggers the zone valve these days?

The external controls activate the valves, once open they turn the boiler on. Same as the old system.

My meter was very low earlier this week!

Pity it won't stay like that!
