You'll have to wait till next summer for performance report. It's still 'work in progress' - not actually plumbed in. I did record an air temperature in the shade next to the copper pipe near the top of 85C after the sun had been out for half an hour. There's no water in the system yet but it will be plumbed into our existing heating system via a second indirect cylinder that will pre-heat the water before it reaches the existing cylinder that can be heated either by our straw-burner or an electric immersion heater. Really the aim is to have the solar panel providing most of the hot water in the summer when we don't run the strawburner. It will therefore substitute for the electric immersion heater. The ex caravan aluminium is the actual energy absorber so is painted matt black. Al is a good conductor so transfers the heat sideways to the water filled copper tubing which is held down with screwed clips and a thermal contact made with silicone mastic. The plastic top (not yet in place in the picture) creates a greenhouse effect. The total area is almost 12 square metres. The main cost was the copper tubing, the second copper cylinder, and the plastic glazing. There's a domestic central heating pump to wizz the water round that someone gave me, and a power shower pump that I got at a car boot sale. Someone on this forum gave me an old roll top bath and someone else gave me some pantiles for the other side of the roof and some quarry tiles for the floor. Bricks are similarly recycled and most of the mortar and timber frame was dug up or cut down in the garden. The windows, triple glazed in mouth blown stained glass are mine. The whole building has cost under £1500.
