I do recall, when William Hague was Leader of the Poncy Party, he did a telly prog oop in Yorkshire to try to show what a Gritty Almost One Of Them Northern Chap Of The People he was, he sat outside with a bottle of beer and a pint glass, and poured it. Straight into the glass, which filled with froth.

Almost as embarrassing as the Mandelson / chip shop / Guacamole incident.

Any house I live in is required to have a table big enough to play boardgames on and 5 chairs. Dinner can also be seved on these tables as long as any spillages are cleaned promptly.

I favour a snooker/dining table. Then, when the gels repair to the (with)drawing room, the chaps can partake in a game of snooker.

After the staff have cleared the table and removed the table top of course.

We've promised ourselves that, the next time we're invited for the weekend, we shall arrive with suitcases in the boot and a door on the roof-rack.

Watching location location, etc last night, I did ponder to my wife that there would be a day soon, when no house in England had any intenal walls left!

We have a dining room, which would be a floor away from the kiitchen but luckily we have the kitchen in the morning room (next to the dining room) so its not too far... Most of the terrace have these knocked through now - an awful thing, as this involves punching through the curved wall!

One of the most common Listed Building Consent types I get involved with is "people who've bought an old farmhouse / rectory and want to knock the kitchen, pantry, larder and scullery together to form a 'family room'".

They do tend to keep the separate dining room but I imagine use it as a home office 99% of the time.

I bought this house as it had a walk-in pantry/larder (or dairy..) with flags, stone slabs, lost of shelves, side of bacon rack, hanging hooks, ventilated window, etc. Makes Nigella's look like a poky cupboard.

Not long after a work colleague ripped hers out. The stone slabs went outside to make seat. When I protested, she looked at me pityingly, told me I was old fashioned. Everyone nowadays was ripping these out.

Her stone farmhouse (it is still a farm) is now graced also with uPVC windows, etc etc. I think I like being old-fashioned.

I still love my pantry.

Me too. Which is a good thing, because there's zero chance of my being regarded as anything else.

I've been very naughty - I swore (quite strongly) at an unknown lady yesterday on the phine.... I told her to take her ****ing plastic windows and stick them in her little plastic house and not in anymore victorian houses. If they didn't fit her plastic house then she should stick them ........ erm, elsewhere.
That's three this week and it's only tuesday AND I'm on the telephone wotsit's list. The one that stops you getting these calls. I must have omitted to tick a little box on some form. Then the WarmFront people keep calling to see if this little old lady wants cavity wall insulation - I haven't got ****ing cavity walls and did I know double glazing was needed... I tell them the glazing bars aren't thick enough and they tell me new plastic windows are cheap and can look exactly like the old ones etc...
Being retired is SO stressful.... when I was at work I didn't get these calls.

I've just had my sash windows restored . I ummed about it for a long time. Plastic absolutely wasn't going to happen, but I was tempted to have replacement double-glazed wooden sashes. There wasn't much difference in the cost. I'm so glad I chose the restoration. Even without the DG the rooms are warmer, the noise is reduced and I still keep most of my wibbly glass. I lost two panes that disintegrated during the work .
