This is the view from our bathroom where a partial thaw dripped from the thatch. Incidentally, does anyone know if pheasants eat lime mortar? We've been adopted by a couple of pheasants who have taken up residence in the garden (safe enough with us as we're vegetarians!). I found one on the extension roof the other morning, peering into the bathroom, and subsequently found holes dug into the lime mortar from the flashing and bits of it scattered on the roof.

Happy Christmas Biff - try not to worry about the climate for a day! The additional 212,000 increase in global population today is probably as big a part of the problem as my scuttle of coal. What irks me is that the doomsayers are so unwilling to admit that population control has to be part of the solution - we can't have our cake and eat it. (I think that ticks the controversial box too! :wink: )

I understand the sentiment, but it's a rather sweeping generalisation isn't it?

Firstly, it's hardly fair to blame anyone for the reproductive decisions of their parents and, secondly, plenty of people choose not to have children or to have fewer than 2.2 (or whatever the current 'replacement' number is), so they are not contributing to an overall increase in population.

Indeed, I wonder if such things are taken into account when calculating things such as carbon footprints. I suspect that 4x4s and foreign holidays are far less carbon-intensive than children.

I quite like the traffic slogan though.

Oh, Oh. Just noticed a loophole here, one can kill THREE birds with one stone.

1) deminish population growth
2) deminish foreign travel
3) keep gas guzzlers on the road ( necessary in this weather !!!!)

In my personal experience of children, as far as emissions go carbon has to be the least noxious of them all!

No, not the average number that people DO have, the average number that would maintain a constant population. It would have to be at least 2, plus a little bit to account for child mortality.
