now I'm 38 I really ought to learn to use the drill. He'd said he'd have to buy a new, lighter drill

Joce - Here*** are some photos of my lovely sister-in-law who had never even lifted a paintbrush, let alone a drill, until we did a radical makeover on our nephew's little house.

I don't mind the leopard print tools, though what I really love are antique wooden ones -difficult to spot in a drill, I know.
Catherine - no celebrating today, 2 filthy hen houses must be swept and scoured, 17 birds treated for scaly leg mite and many metres squared of waste somehow cleared.

Robin - surely your two small boys have been set to work by now!

I don't profess to know much about what is and isn't "chintzy", but would these be more suitable?

I do wish you children would stop referring to thirty-something as "old". In another thirty years the word will start to loom on the horizon - not before.

I try to live by the maxim: "growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional", though Mrs FF maintains that, being male, the 'optional' bit doesn't really apply.

I agree, Penners, that thirty-something does sound young. It's the big number that is fast approaching that I am squeamish about
