A little bird (well, actually it was a great big chicken, running away from a ravenous cat and laying the most surprising blue eggs) tells me that the Joce half of JoceandChris reaches another birthday today. As it will probably be spent worrying about cracked ceilings, buying up half of Lincolnshire to make room for sheep, goats and other assorted wildlife, sticking odd Georgian and Victorian newsclippings to the walls, and roasting, or otherwise rendering magnificent, delicious clove-studded hams for hungry PPUKers (while living down an entertainingly disreputable past), I think she should be the recipient of our congratulations, and a few more impossible sewing projects, of the sort sometimes labelled "curtain porn":

I broke my sewing machine on last year's curtain frills but I have just opened a pressie to find a lovely Brother machine so I can tackle the curtain porn in Gareth's pics.

As for the yearly disappointing alterations to The Smoots, well, it's something we all have to endure isn't it. Never mind. It is fortunate that there is so much beauty and history about one to distract from the painful ageing process.

I'm still in bed, but am looking forward to be taken out for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Thanks Joss, and everyone. Let's hope it's the best year for all of us.

I had a lovely, decadent, day thank you, and told Chris that now I'm 38 I really ought to learn to use the drill. He'd said he'd have to buy a new, lighter drill ( any excuse for a tool) but that really there was no point bothering as the sorts of thing I'd want to use a drill for - mounting shelves and erecting poles - are a two person job anyway.

What do you think about that? I reckon there are loads of things you need it for.

He did say he'd teach me the ways of the petrol strimmer though.
