Lovely picture, but I wouldn't put it over the fireplace, either, unless the fireplace is purely decorative and stopped up. Even if you're sure that it won't be affected by smoke, the heat will affect the oil and repeated heating and cooling will cause cracking, especially if the paint is moderately thick.
