Adam F, what you're saying does sound like a bit of a nightmare - the bypass, the industrial estate, the large amount of added housing... it reminds any of us living in splendid isolation that what we have is fragile. I hope things work out for you.

We managed to get the appeal to build a large house, in what was once the farm orchard, refused. Crucially, the local Conservation and planning depts were onside, and gave their expertise. The main ground for refusal was the effect the development would have on the setting of the listed building. However, objecting to the appeal of an individual who has already been turned down three times by the council is a different kettle of fish to objecting to the council giving consent.

Our 4 houses have been subjected to a new bypass, a new industrial estate and a 750 house development less than 500 yards away in the last year - our only 'protected' view is the fields and countryside beyond which we all overlook - now they want this too..... for travellers.

Adam, just a thought, but I bet the people in the 750 house development won't be any more keen than you to have this site on their doorstep. Perhaps you could get a petition up/do a leaflet drop? They're all voters after all and though the council may not listen to just you four, a mass objection might achieve some results. (I have no objection to crusties, btw, indeed some of my friends are strangers to soap and familiar with the benefits system, but I would be reluctant to have loads of them on my only bit of open view. It's bad enough when they camp in my garden).

Maybe look into getting the other 3 houses listed?

Straight to the Listed Buildings officer, bypassing Planning.

Possibly more clout with 4 than 1, just a thought.
