My account is private *now* but before it was public. Both accesses had a completely different password. To give people the password to the private side of my account would be ludicrous!!!

I've just had a play with PhotoBucket and I didn't realise you can set up a guest password which is what I guess you are talking about. This will give those you give the password to access to all your photos within this account but that is all (as far as I can see). If you want to try this, login in as MdBpp with password 1234 and you will be able to view two pictures. Not much else you will be able to do though. Alternatively, I could make the account public and anybody who cares will be able to view the pictures but again that is all. If there was a problem with security at PhotoBucket then this would be news in the geek press I read and there has been nothing.

Are you doubting me, then? I went on what Nemesis told me and I had, and still have, no reason not to believe her. Just because something isn't widespread doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Nemesis accessed my account using the public password, yet was able to see/change/edit/delete all my personal details. How do *you* suppose that happened?

If your account password was set to "periodproperty" somehow then everyone would have complete access to your account as you and Nemesis have said and I vaguely remember when I looked at your account a while back. The question is how this occurred. You mention public password a couple of times. Photobucket don't use this term, they use account password and guest password, maybe this is where the confusion arose. The photobucket control panel is also not the clearest of things to use so confusion could of resulted there also. It is also possible of course that photobucket had an issue which caused the passwords to get mixed. Looking on their forum, one other person has reported a similar issue but nothing was found by the Photobucket staff.

Not that any of this matters, your account is now closed tight which is a pity as it means that nobody can see your pictures. If you have pictures you don't want the general public to see then this is probably for the best but if you don't mind others seeing them, you can simply change your account from private to public (without changing any passwords) and you will be able to show them to people again as well as inlining them here. If you are worried that it will all go wrong again, get a third party (Nemesis I am sure will help as will I though I think I have annoyed you a bit - sorry not intended) to check once you have made the change over. We can then all see your pictures again which if I remember right were very interesting to see.

No, this was simply a terminology mistake on my part. I know the difference between 'account' and 'guest'.

I have no pictures that I wish to remain private. For years now, I've been extremely happy for members of Period Property to view the progress on my house.

Yes, you did annoy me. You tried to tell me something hadn't happened when I knew damn well it had! Why on earth would Nemesis tell me that she had accessed my 'account' using my 'guest' password? I had no reason to doubt her and was very, very grateful that she'd told me immediately. Then you suggest I don't know how to operate a simple account on a simple website.....one that I've been managing for years. Yes, you annoyed me! Still, it's over now and I don't carry things around with me. Perhaps I'll look around for another site to host my pics and post the ones that people would specifically like to see.

i've now had a couple of people in and the last guy disagrees with everyone else but what he says seems to make sense. he doesn't think that dampness is penetrating through the walls from the high ground level outside; instead he believes it is caused through condensation and that the bitumen,lino,carpet sandwich on the floor is making things worse.

the answer is removing all floor coverings and hopefully installing UFH to stop excessive heat swings (which the storage heater on the other side of the room has apparently encouraged).

The challenge is how do you do this without raising the floor level too much - there's only four inches down to the bedrock.

I think i may have stumbled across two useful products. Has anyone got experience of hemp? isochanvre and Tradical are products which use it combined with lime to produce an insulating, breathing floor slab.

Also Max4therm is a UFH system that only uses 20mm of depth. anyone heard about that?

I still don't understand why you're limiting yourselves to 4" depth. You've said before that the rock isn't a solid mass of bedrock but rather a loose yet compacted layer. Why can you not dig further down and use standard products rather than limit yourself and complicate the issue by looking for alternative, and likely more expensive, products?

Heat swings do create problems but usually they are short term abrupt heat-cool cycles.
The storage radiator will heat slowly and cool slowly, probably the best form of heating to avoid such a damp problem...assuming the room is ventilated adequately too.
However if the storage heater is not big enough so that the room temperature is low for long periods then that might be contributing to, but not the cause of, your problem.
Underfloor heating might improve the situation but you don't have much room to put it in and have a decent amount of insulation underneath it.
You might end up heating the rest of Devon.
It is expensive too, both installation and running costs.
With underfloor or any form of continuous heating where the temperature is kept constant it is important to have ventilation all the time.
Heating alone does not remove damp/condensation/water: ventilation does.
In a big room there will be a variation of temperature no matter how it is heated and condensation will occur in cold spots if there is little ventilation.

The damp under the floor is probably seeping in (it doesn't take much but it accumulates) through the bedrock.
To some extent when the floor was lowered into the bedrock the situation was made worse.

You can do your own simple test for the damp in the walls.

Go outside and dig a shallow hole near the wall that is overcovered.
Is the soil/rock damp or is it as dry as a bone?
If it is dry the wall will be dry, and if it is damp then so will be the wall.
