FF Isn`t the ships bell clock called a "ting tang"? my grandfather had one,that and his hunter (watch not horse) were his proudest possessions.

I don't really know much about them and it's the only one I've ever heard so it was quite a novelty when I first heard it. The chimes are definitely all the same pitch though and it's the timing that differentiates them - either a single 'ding' or a double 'ding-ding'. Somewhat tricky to describe but instantly recognisable when heard.

It was made by the Chelsea clock company in the USA and there is nothing particularly 'period' about it except its design heritage and it has certainly never been on a ship. :lol:

I heard the phrase "ting tang" from the clock man I took the clock to for servicing in the 70s.The clock was refurbished to a high standard with the brass inlay and wood polished,he thought the world of it,when he died it passed to my parents and when they died my sister took it "Im having that"( I only got what she did not want and she had not taken to the charity shops!) it is now somewhere in a damp garage and she tells me the pendulum has been lost but I think I wrapped it in bubble wrap and put it inside.It is a pity as it would look great on the dining room mantle piece where I have a "lookalike" with a quartz movement.
