I can confirm that it certainly did until about 7 years ago, when we moved away from that area - coffee and custard. The factory suffered a massive custard explosion in 1981, when something ignited the fine corn starch powder. It was very serious, but I could never get rid of the idea that a custard explosion sounded like something out of the Goon Show.philpjuk100 said:Does banbury still smell of coffee?
Some years earlier, we lived in Tiptree, just down the hill from Wilkins jam factory. When the wind was in the right direction, we used to get wonderful jam-making smells - the strawberry in particular smelled delicious. The location of our house was such that, around the middle of June, the sun used to sink straight down the factory chimney, to our children's fascination!

Caley's of Norwich still exists, although - bizarrely - the company now appears to be located in Middle Wallop, Hants. :?
However, I do recommend their "Marching Chocolate" with 70% cocoa. It's excellent.

Custard explosion! As a child I used to live near the kelloggs factory in trafford park,the large silos where the grain was stored used to explode in a spectacular fashion,spliting down the sides,this was just after the war and used to send folks running for the shelters!

This looks a pretty comprehensive proof that it's in the same place, but the Guardian has also fallen for it today - in an editorial, no less.
