It seems associated with a popup called Java Virtual Machine Launcher that gives the message: "Unable to access jarfile \\91.188.60.234public\photo1.jpg"
What's that about?

I'm sitting here, using Kubuntu and Firefox - having ditched Micro$oft for ever a year or two ago. Virus writers don't really target Linux and the security/permissions set up is much more secure anyway. I'm not sure we could even run Windows anymore at home even if we wanted to - the only machine with it installed is my work laptop.
I'd recommend anyone and everyone to get a copy of Linux Format magazine from Tescos next time you shop. It will have a cover disk of one of the major Linux distributions which almost certainly will be a LiveDisk trial version - meaning you can pop it in your CD drive and boot from it without needing to install anything on your hard disk. Try it for a couple of days and you'll probably never go back...

I haven't quite made a complete break away from Windows, but I'm still running XP on all but one of my PCs with Firefox on all of them. I didn't see any malware warnings when accessing PPUK and everything seems to be working fine here. I'm using Avira AntiVir and Spybot - both freeware and highly recommended.
As for Linux, I'd agree with FW's points but would also add that it outperforms Windows quite significantly, i.e. it will run perfectly adequately on an old PC that can no longer really support Windows. I was about to consign an old PC (P3, 600MHz, 320MB RAM, 13GB HD) to the recycler but decided to try it with Ubuntu and found that it works fine for basic web browsing, email and the standard 'office stuff'.
So if you're planning to upgrade to a faster PC because your current one is too slow for all the latest and 'greatest' software, it's well worth trying a version of Linux on the old PC before throwing it out and, from what I've read, Ubuntu seems to be the most user-friendly package available.

I use Windows XP, FireFox and Avast as an anti-virus pogram. Avast is completely free, and is successfully blocking and warning me about all the nasty things that are currently trying to attack me from this site. I have no conection with Avast, other than being a happy customer.

Ouch. That's a bit worrying. I've known lots of people who successfully use AVG and it seems to get good reviews as well.Penners said:
Just to clarify the 'freeware' thing though, it doesn't (always!) mean something shoddy knocked-up by a geek in their spare bedroom that's a couple of years out of touch with the latest viruses. They are normally free licences for personal use, rather than business use, and come with regular updates. My Avira AntiVir is certainly updated daily.
Unfortunately though, one let-down can easily be one too many. The internet can be a rough old place.

I'm running XP Pro and Firefox, and Trend Micro Internet Security reports that it's blocked loads of threats from http: //85.234.190.13/tds/in.cgi?default. The latest one was as 21:05 today. The first one was at 15:41 on the 29th, but there were several attacks from different addresses before that. There's been nothing else in the last 30 days, so I reckon this is all related to the problem here.
Hmmm, my post from yesterday seems to have vanished! In it I said that my free Avast anivirus was doing a perfect job of blocking all the current virus problems from this site. ........ Maybe the virus doesn't want you all to know that there is a free and easy way to get rid of it!
I started using Avast after having a problem with AVG once, and Avast has been fine ever since. Remember though that no anti-virus is perfect. AVG only let me down once, but we use Sophos at work which is certainly not free and we've had a couple of viruses get past that in recent years.
