One of our local window cleaners has got a massive telescopic jetwash/brush contraption that he uses to clean 4and 5 storey buildings from the ground - he also does glass roof & conservatory cleaning with it.

I have to say that neither the lower quotes for Douglas fir or oak (from Richmond Oak) nor the higher one from Apropos surprised me much. It's a lot of glass.
The more I read about glass roof construction and heat loss, the less I can recommend it. It's basically throwing your money out the windows if you heat it.
The only reason I'm still pursuing my vinery conversion is we have 2 practical options - either rebuild/upgrade it to living space or take it down before it falls on our heads. I continue to research options. Thanks for the link NT - I will take a look.
Sorry NT - I wasn't clear - I went and had a look at news:alt.solar.thermal . A couple of hits came up for quadruple glazing but nothing directly useful. I then got caught up reading and forgot why I was there!
