Gas heating is useless if there is no electricity to operate the controls, circulation pumps and valves.

If this is the issue then gas AGA is the solution. My mum has one plus gas boiler. AGA back boiler fills the hot water tank and boiler kicks in if required. AGA - tank pair is electricity agnostic.

She was lucky enough to have a distillery pay to put piped gas through our front field so could ditch the gas tank.

With a paraffin lamp and a log burner, she was power cut proof untill she forgets that thehairdryer wont work.

how many Agas are also accompanied by separate ovens and hobs

To be fair we managed with only the Aga (first world problem?) for the first couple of years here. There was no gas or cooker point in the old kitchen, just the Aga and a Belfast sink. Did find an ancient cooker point behind a large dresser when we demo'd but probably best that we didn't know given the state of the rubber cable. Now we have a choice of the Aga or electric appliances but the Aga still sees a fair amount of cooking action when its on. Its great for sitting things on and letting them bubble away for hours on end and you always have a warm oven to pop things into. Plus dry tea towels and outdoor jackets.

I figure it goes through 50l a week on average, so based on last top up that would be about 150 a month. Prices collapsed to about 30ppl during covid (because it basically runs on jet fuel) and spiked to well over 100ppl when Ukraine kicked off -- I managed to miss both extremes because I didn't need a top up. If it wasn't there the heat would need to come from somewhere else so getting rid of it doesn't mean we would bank all of that amount. If you care about carbon dioxides however its not the solution for you -- but neither is a period property...

We have an Everhot 120i and absolutely love it. There are two good sized ovens, a warming oven a hot plate and induction for instant/rush cooking. We have it set on an eco mode where the oven warms up at 4pm and switches off at 8pm and it uses 50Kwh per week. Normal eco mode warms the oven and hot plate all day and uses 90kwh per week, until I get some renewables to help I'm not stretching to the latter just yet.
