It's very possible that consent MAY be given retrospectively (this is a complex issue in fact) but it's always best to ask before you make changes rather than after. The local authority always looks more favourably on sensible discussion before things are changed.

A like for like repair wouldn't have required consent, a change would. This is regarded as a change.

Woodworm could have had resin injected into the holes to strengthen the timber, although in a bad case it would I agree be a security risk.

Could such be usable as an argument for reinstating the door to how it was originally, rather than at the time of listing?

If theres any input of natural light at all, there are ways to increase it, using a simple external removable reflector. Or, for more substantial gains, a tracking mirror, which need not be on the house. How all that would interact with LBC I wouldnt know.

Surprisising as it may seem, many people do live in houses or flats with dark hallways, especially in towns and cities.

It is amazing what you can do to make an otherwise dreary space interesting with some imaginative interior decoration. A dark narrow hall is a problem in many townhouses. Hanging the walls thickly with interesting old pictures, prints, maps, maybe a in an ornate gilt frame, some interesting wall lights, a nice runner on the floor, a grandfather clock...

My house's passageway is very dark - it's a victorian terrace so I expect no different. There is a (very dirty) window in the ceiling at the top of the stairs but it lets little light through and none gets downsatirs to the passage (sorry, posh folk call it the "hall") but the name is the giveaway - it's a passage from front door to rear with the two downstairs room doors opening into it and the stairs at the end. There are thousands - probably millions of houses with this type of design.
We have an energy saving bulb on all the time - it has lasted 5 years so far too because it isn't ever switched off.
Light walls, ceilings and (if you have the nerve) light coloured flooring makes a world of difference.
Presumably the hallway was dark when the house was bought which is usually a good sign that it will continue to be dark after purchase.

I know but having had a taste of a lovely light hall I'm very relucant to go back to dreariness.

I guess we should have thought about it before buying but we looked at it in the summer time and the sellers had the front door open both times so it was light.

I used to frequent a room with no windows. Shh, no gossipping. They had electric light fake windows on the walls. Everyone was fooled. Theyre very simple, and really do make all the difference.
