Don't worry Robin, this is a very normal thing to do. It's all the people who haven't got their top bedrooms as hatcheries who are mad, not I.

Does Chris know? I watched "Hotel for dogs" with the kids the other night - and couldn't stop thinking it was the kind of thing you'd do! Now I hear you're turning the top bedroom into a nursery for chickens....

Seriously though - have you checked out the potential health hazards? Although small, if you let them out to roam on the bed, etc, they will poo and make dust and mess. This will travel through the house one way or another.

Chris knows and disapproves but can't do much about it. Not really a nursery, when they're really tiny they just need to be in a box type arrangement under an electric hen. They have to protected from falling or being eaten, and I'll want to look at them every ten minutes as they can get into scrapes. Many a hatcher has lost a tiny chick to an overturned water bowl. As soon as they're at the running round or flying stage I'll put them into a shed.

Potential hazards -hmm- maybe only something you worry about if you have children? I'm pretty resigned to death by Farmer's Lung anyhow.

I thought children also made poo and dust and mess? and took much much longer to get to the stage when they could be put out in a shed!

Quite! My sister-in-law is perpetually ill with colds from her little children, and they seem to always have something the matter with them, whereas I'm never ill despite washing in brown rainwater and living alongside rats.
