If I am truly honest, of all the decisions I have deliberated this week, that apostrophe was one of the longest and most vexed. I do think I recall Lynne Truss giving me permission to apostrophise* the plural of certain commercial nouns. But I did vary between:

biros, biro's, Biros and Biro's.

To be honest, none looks satisfactory and I should have gone with pen's :wink:

As for the lack of odd socks - not so long ago I was so short of pairs of socks in the morning, I decided to actively wear odd socks. The result is that within a couple of weeks, all I can find now are pairs of socks. I really do suspect greater Cosmic forces are at work here...
