Charming, my response would be to inform them I had decided upon a Viking service so they could watch while I, and a good part of their legacy, went up in smoke! But then, I could not do that to this old place so it would be the cats home for my net worth - even though I don't like cats.

For those of you interested in privvies and the construction thereof, I can highly recommend reading "The Specialist" by Charles Sale. First published in the 20's its an old-style folksy dialogue by a fictious carpenter (Lem Putt) who specialises in the building of outhouses, including wisdom on the siting of these and their design, up to and including "the family three-holer". Plenty of copies of this available really cheaply on ebay etc or new from Amazon and a great light-hearted stocking-filler!

I tried dropping him a direct message a while ago, as that should have prompted an email to him, but I heard nothing back. Doesn't look great I'm afraid as I'd had a few off-forum conversations with him in the past and he'd always responded quite quickly. Maybe this will tease him out, who knows.

There's a lot of folks who used to post a lot who stopped suddenly - Penners, JoceAndChris, Moo and many others. In fact Penners still has by far and away the greatest number of posts! I joined in 2008 and I'm not sure many others from back then are still posting - I'm only aware of one who got banned!

Well well... just thought I'd pop in and glad to see I'm still in the top ten posters of all time...

I'm not as decript as you though Feltwell... I don't hit 50 for another couple of months.

I see Penners dropped out a couple of years ago... I do hope he is OK. Someone split an infinitive - that's sure to flush him out.

I'm just repatching/repairing some lime plaster in the lounge after a flood/damp incident a couple of years ago. The lime putty I made about 4 years ago has matured very nicely in the plastic dustbin I'd forgotten. Going on a treat - and the heat I'm generating plastering saves putting the heating on during the day!

Right - I'd better catch up with a few threads and see what folk have been upto.

Splitting some infinitives to flush him out - good idea, maybe always call lath lathe as well, just as a backup plan.

Ooh. I am pleased Penners is up and about recently. He was such a prolific and helpful poster - I wonder why he suddenly stopped.

Good luck with the ceiling repairs. I did one recently in the younger underling’s room after some storm damage. I used hemp lime plaster from Ty Mawr for the first time as I wanted plenty of strength. Evil stuff…will never use it again!

This is much less "period" I'm afraid - it's making good around where rooflights were fitted, but then undercladding the sloping ceilings with celotex and plasterboard. The only way to improve the insulation! When done it'll look no different to what is there now though.
