I'm sure that you can get a heat detector, to use instead of a smoke detector. The sort of thing that you would have in a garage or kitchen, where smoke is likely, but it detects heat instead.
The insurance work covers a full house rewire, so I'm going to have integrated smoke and heat detectors when that gets underway. Mind you, the fire was on 4th July 2009, so far the contractors have put one piece of steel into the building and that was yesterday!
