Fings wot I dun this week(end)

I managed a fair amount this weekend. I almost plastered the whole kitchen party wall. I used plaster screeds to get it as flat as I could. An old construction book I have states that there is no secret to lime plastering, just lots of elbow grease. I can second that. I am beginning to look like hellboy now with one arm twice the size of the other.

The bicycle as found its way into shot again. I think its feeling left out as the furthest it's moved in the last year is from the kitchen to outside the back door and back into the kitchen again.

Excellent work - well done!

I used screeds when I did half a wall of interior lime plastering a few years ago. What eluded me however was that nice polished finished on the final coat. Since I was wanted to wallpaper it didn't matter but I would have liked to have been able to do it.

Odd location of a fireplace, in corner like that.

You're not the first person to say that about the fireplace, but round here it seems quite common on these terraces to share a chimney stack with the neighbours at the back of the house. There would have originally been a range in there but I haven't a clue what it looked like so the surround I put in is just simple and hopefully not out of keeping with the age of the house. I'm not looking forward to doing the top/setting coat as I really want to get an excellent finish (I'm not a fan of the rustic look either) as I plan to paint the walls, probably with clay paint as it seems very highly regarded by people on this forum.
