Fings wot I dun this week(end)

I set myself a goal this weekend of finishing the plastering on 1 wall and finishing the surround to the kitchen chimney breast. I didn't manage to finish the wall, but I got the fireplace up. I also got a stained glass panel back from the restorers. It is very nice, except that the colour chosen to replace a few broken pieces is not the same as before. People think I won't be notice, but I do.

Like the fireplace. It has a simple dignity.

Matching old glass is very difficult. The colour, the colour density, the texture... Some restorers have stocks squirelled away, but have they the right glass for a particular window? Sometimes, one has to sacrifice more of the old glass, and insert new in a symmetrical manner.
It's a pain, being a perfectionist.

Why is it that the fireplace abutting the wall like that looks so unusual to my eye? Is that wall more recent? Nice job with the surround.

That wall is the party wall. My house shares a chimney with next door. It is slightly odd as there is only a half bricks width to the right hand jamb or pier. There must have been a range in there originally, but I haven't a clue what it looked like, apart from that there was a copper on the left.

What I've done........

NOT cured my leaks in new wetroom, this took up most of the week.........
had notice of redundancy
Met Terry Waite and Robert Plant
Watched Wolves make a terrible mess of their place in the championship
Had my multi million pound bid to train ex convicts and young people to build, whilst returning empty homes into use and creating new one bedroomed properties turned down
Wrote a bid to run a mobile IT suite to help people with the new universal credit, and other benefits which now all need to be done on-line
Met with my Prince's Trust businesses
helped my Young Enterprise students write their presentation
Cut the grass on the paddock

Ate a load of biscuits and drank gallons of tea, that's about it

Shoveled a trailer load of donkeys do do around the fruit bushes and watched Munster make a haims of it in the Heineken Cup and then watched Saracens do the same yesterday. I guess Dublin will be full of French people for the final...

Well that little lot puts my meagre weekend to shame. I did manage a gig at Hertford Corn Exchange on Sunday, but Robert Plant didn't show up :wink:

So far it's only notice of intended. I only do 15 hours per week, keeps me out from the house meeting people, but it's gone downhill just recently, wouldn't mind a change. Have a few other irons in fires not too worry about it and several leeks to fix and at 3 years per room on average could do with some time to get on with the house!!!!

Repainted kitchen walls and ceiling, now trying to decide on a new coloiur for the cupboards!! And, by the way, switched back to kit kats!!

It's even still in the old format. Just thought that would bring back fond memories for Penners because I was no more than a child when it first came out .
