F&B paints & Rad question

Penners! You were missed you know.

Why don't you like F&B paint? Is it because it's tricky to use- needs 3 coats - needs thinning regularly - prone to show brushmarks? Or just that you don't like its snobby image?

All of the above (except that I would substitute the word "fashionable" for "snobby").

I just think it belongs in the Social Stereotypes column, along with a large number of other products that carry dinner party brand names.

I don't doubt that it's decent paint, but there are plenty of other decent paints on the market, too.

F&B has lost a lot of it's appeal since it lost it's National Trust emblazoned paint tins.
It was a reasonable paint 20 years ago compared to other modern paints. Dulux, at that time, was a horrible paint in comparison, thin, sticky and stank.

As for living as if in the 18th century I have often wondered what was the benefit of crapping in the sideboard?

Sikkens - its much better but you have to be careful of the colour chart, Aglaia as it is not full of nastyness or something from Ted Ingilby in Glemsford

I have it on good authority that F&B use the same basic ingredients as most common brands as they just buy in their base paint and add more pigment. F&B is applied the same way as any other paint its the same just with more pigment and a bigger price tag! Brush strokes are just user error!!! a poor workman blames her tools!!!! Buy good Purdy brushes to make a good job.

I agree with Penners as F&B even appears in Estate agent details now - but especially Andrew Lansleys expense report

The Sikkens colours are a little too definite for my taste. The Aglaia is completely beautiful- I've got their paint cards for historical colours and I'm drooling over "Garter Blue" and "Lute" right now. But at £31.00 for 0.75l it's pretty pricey... anyone who swanks over F&B at dinner parties is silly really, it's just high street paint in subtle, but trendy colours. I see that there are much more high quality, and more expensive paints around.

By the way, apart from a few minor deviations here and there, this thread is now very long, and had stayed on topic. :shock:

Well, never having tried it myself, I can't give you an empirical answer to that. But in all honesty, I doubt that it's worth the bother.
