Keim is a silicate paint which binds with the lime, its german and has been around for a long time, by all accounts the original forulation is still on some older buildings (tens and tens of years). It remains breathable and basically seems to be pretty nails... Anyone come across this as this is one of the next big projects on my list.... and I;d love someone with first hand experience to chip in!!?

GPHOuse,
Just noticed your comment on exterior paint for lime plastered walls on an old cottage and hope you dont mind if I ask a question....
Can silicate paint be applied directly onto old paint? I live in a 300yr old cottage with lime plastered exterior walls. The previous owner used a Farrow & Ball water based exterior masonry many years ago that is still in excellent condition...has bonded well and no bubbling or flaking. As the old paint has bonded so well its impossible to remove so need a long lasting, breathable paint to go over the top. Is the Keim silcate paint you mention a good option to use "over" old paint?
thank you for any help
