Also stocked up on huge quantities of that on eBay before John Prescott's madness took effect a few years ago. I rewired much of the house with it (and will complete it one day :roll: ). I was determined to avoid the problems Zebra raises in terms of future sales. Mind you, the wiring will be positively antique before we sell this place!

Nope Auction finished 6p below my auctionstealer setting, too low to place a bid! Still another one will come up, they seem fairly common. A very plain & simple lamp.

My Jim L light arrived and I'm pleased as punch. The brass is wonderfully mellow and the glass is very slightly wobbly with a couple of tear drops.

Very nice of you angrybird! I wish I could have Chris working here during the week but he has long days in London - someone has to keep me in the style to which I'd like to become accustomed!

Well thanks to some very good advice in the thread the light and PIR are now up and we're pleased with the job. Glad we were able to have the PIR on the corner of the house so when you come down the path the light comes on. No more falling down the stairs into blackness!

Now the rest of the exterior looks a bit shabby...

The light looks great and the PIR is practically invisible as the eye is taken by the brass light and the white fascia and walls.

If you haven't already, it may be worth reading the instruction manual in detail for the PIR. Our one had a non obvious extra mode which enabled you to switch the light on permanently for the evening - switching off automatically in the morning if you forgot. If I remember right you had to switch the light / PIR off, on, off, on with the right timing.

Very nice indeed, but you've broken the golden rule of period property jobs. You've bought the item, got straight on and fitted it almost immediately.

Don't you realise the damage this could do to the rest of us who need thinking time, kit kats and the chance to let our new purchase "mature" in the shed for at least six months prior to doing the job? God only knows what could happen if our partners read this - the consequences are horrendous, they might expect us to stop procrastinating and actually GET ON with something. :roll: :lol:
