Yup, and it was in for our enhancement awards this week (didn't win as it wasn't a barn conversion :roll: )

I actually never think about putting stuff up on Geograph - perhaps I should!

Pity it didn't win - but as you say, a not a barn conversion!

No - which is why I think people don't consider tin!

Alternatively, perhaps they don't consider tin because (like me) they think it looks bleedin' 'orrible!

Sad - I love it. No worse than many a pretendy ersatz roofing material. At least it's historic and traditional.

It sounds like you need to knock it all down and start again to me. The construction doesn't sound too good and if it is an eyesore then that might be the best way forward.

We were faced with the same dilema and had some DIY early 60's rubbish which we demolished. With a clean piece of paper you can a) re-design it to your tastes, take advantage of some modern technologies, etc b) possibly change the design and/or make it bigger etc. and c) pull the whole thing together so that it is sympathetic to the existing building.

I am all for the perservation of our heritage and have loving restored all that I possibly can in my house, but I wouldn't want to live with someone else's bodged up work. Where I have found examples of this I have removed it without any remorse, even though I am now skint! Ha.

Which is all very fine, but as the OP said - they simply can't afford to knock it down and start again, and it's possible that it could be rethought in the short term, until finances permit something better.
