sharp sand................... and go for a 1:2..... 1:3 is in my opinion a bit sandy....1:3 was used for ratio of quicklime to aggregate pre slaking.... post slaking lime has almost doubled in volume.... hence 1:2 being a better mix in my opinion.....
..... sharp sand - 3mm > 150 microns....... the max aggregate size needs to be roughly 1/3 of the width of the bed/perp joint which is to be dubbed/scratch coated over...............
