Husband bought a lightweight Dyson on some deal before we moved and it's driving me crazy. It really doesn't like plaster or bits of wallpaper or dust in quantity. Suction isn't great and it has to be emptied every 5 minutes and seems to get very hot.
I'm thinking of getting a Henry and hiding him in the shed as it seems that Dyson animals are basically for people with straight walls and floors who need to deal with a teensy bit of dust.
Is Henry the best one?

You need two.
Henry for clearing up after "work". He'll do that well.
A Sebo for serious "keeping the house spotless". They are excellent, although too expensive for "after work".
We had two Dysons. One was bequeathed to the tip, the other to younger daughter for her flat in Germany (the Germans are intrigued by it).

Fine dust, especially plasterboard dust, is Kryptonite to a Dyson. It goes all the way through and blocks the filter (which can be washed). Annoyingly it also blocks the air feed mechanism for the spinning brush which doen't appear to be easilly serviceable. A bagged vac like a Henry is a must for building work.
I do like the Dyson for general cleaning as when properly maintained it cleans up the hairs from the lazy long haired cat very well. The other half bought a little battery powered one which is fabulous for the stairs. But they are a triumph of lies and marketing which don't mention all the servicing required.

Our local electrical repair shop loved Dysons. Main cause of demise seemed to be owners' failure to clean the multiple filters.
We have a Henry with zip bag, and an Electrolux cylinder from 1985. Many years ago we had a Cadillac, lovely to look at with its alloy castings and stove enamel handle, but it was lousy at vacuuming.

Another vote for a combination of Henry and a Sebo here :wink: Although we left our Sebo behind when we sold our Wiltshire house as we ran out of space in the Landy after the removal lorries had departed and we were still frantically cleaning the place and we have so far not got around to replacing it......
Previously we've tried a Dyson but hated the blasted thing :roll:

Just as I was reading through this thread I thought nobody was going to mention a SEbo--- then Malcolm did & PipandMimms. I have always used Sebo, one cylinder and one upright. They are very good.
