Is planning application for windows free? Blimey - it's gonna cost me over £100 to apply for permission to add doors to the open bay on my garage! I wish I'd never asked the planning dept. - just done it and waited to see if anyone even noticed.
Small paned double glazing doesn't look quite as refined as single glazed windows due to the size of the wood but it's a small trade off to make for better insulation and still looks better than plastic. I had this done in a previous home and the difference in appearance from the old ones was negligible. Wish I could have it here were our single glazed leaded casements frequently have ice on the inside - not remotely desirable just bloody cold!
