Well, for years mount Everest was 29,028 feet high. But when it was recently checked they found it is now 29,035 feet high. So what's going on there then. Did the tide go out or something?

Proof that plate tectonics and continental drift exist?

More likely proof that measuring techiniques have improved.

Actually there is a story that, when the height of Everest was first scientifically measured, it was shown to be exactly 29,000 feet high. However the surveying team thought nobody would believe this exact round figure, so they added a few feet to make it more credible.

Probably apocryphal.
