Difference between cross bonding and supplementary bonding?

There is more rubbish talked about equipotential bonding etc than virtually any other electrical topic. Let's consider earthing 'floating' metal in the bathroom for a moment. A screwhead? That's floating. Better earth that. The chrome flush handle on the WC. That's floating. Better earth that as well. Many electricians don't understand it either and talk rubbish. I am not an expert but I do know that if you ask this question on the askthetrades forum then you will get a sensible, definitive view.

Many electricians don't understand it either and talk rubbish.

The web is a wonderful resource for discussion but, as was pointed out earlier in this thread, all such electrical works should be certified by a suitably qualified person. That is (or should be!) the ultimate safeguard.

With an MSc in Electronics, IEE membership and 30 years plus experience, I know enough to know if I'm being given BS.

Fair point, on a personal level, but I was thinking in more general terms, especially after your observation that many electricians don't understand the issue and 'talk rubbish'. Still, I guess that's true in all specialist subjects.
