Damp in wall adjacent to busy road

Sorry for hijacking the post Fred but our problem is similar to yours. Here are some not very good pictures of our internal wall adjacent to the busy road which suffers from splashing from the traffic. I'm not sure now that 'salty deposits' is an apt description for our problem - it is more bubbly and nobbly. Any suggestions for remedies welcome or rather what should we do first? (contact Highways Agency. remove cement render, etc etc)

Thanks for all the replies. Juju - your problem looks very similar to our outside wall. Inside we have a lot more "crusty" white salt deposits and flaking of plaster.

To answer an earlier Q the wall is brick with lime plaster on top. There is a large timber beam at about head height. Inside and outside are about level. Floor is a mix of timber in some places and more modern concrete (which wont help I guess)

Thanks for the Masterclass on salt, ventilation etc. - Im learning every day!! All this is great feedback.

We cannot ventilate the wall as it has vents - it has the main road next to it literally. Would dehumidifying help??

Sorry guys. In my last post I meant to say we cannot ventialte the wall as it is a solid wall next to the main road with no windows or venting capability. Would vent "bricks" at a low lvel help or just add to the problem?
