Damask wallpaper I don't need a second mortgage for!

I really want damask wallpaper in our hall and stairs, and the Silvergate papers from F&B are lovely. But SOOOO expensive!

Does anyone have any bright ideas on where I can get a damask wallpaper, in a range of colours (I'm thinking I would like yellows/golds), that won't break the bank? Also looking for something nice in blue for our bedroom.

I keep coming back to the same names, and could do with a recommendation or two.

Personally I'd say eat beans on toast for a couple of months and get the Silvergate!! I've got the sample here, mmm. The St Antoine too, in blue, oh.

Traditionally damask plays with matt and sheen anyhow, but the FnB are completely matt.

So interesting, the history of damask- coincidentally I've just been reading about it! Incredible that it dates back to the eighth century. Traditionally reversible, earliest designs featured Persian, Islamic and Ottoman motifs - pomegranates, pine cones, ogees, birds, animals... then the Italians making the patterns larger and adding their own flourishes to the birds, animals, artichokes, vases etc. Horace Walpole appropriately lined his Strawberry with with crimson wool Norwich damask, I do hope they've recreated that in the restoration. The cost of that though, my word.

Some of the Laura Ashley's are lovely - some are very contemporary, depends what you like. They can be so cheap though! I got my blue bedroom paper for £8 a roll, I still love it.

I wonder if the referendum will be counted along AV lines?

That way, all the second preferences of the the losing side can be redistributed, making the result 100% No (or Yes). :roll:

I'll be voting No in both referenda - in Wales we're also being asked on March 3rd if we'd like to give the Great Parish Council in Cardiff more lawmaking powers... so they can dream up schemes like insisting all new homes have sprinklers fitted or other interfering nanny state regulation and red tape.

Damasks are woven with one warp yarn and one weft yarn, usually with the pattern in warp-faced satin weave and the ground in weft-faced or sateen weave. Twill damasks include a twill-woven ground or pattern.

Have you looked into having your own prints printed? bespoke paper? Or would that be as stupidly expensive as it sounds?

Rather than have sprinklers fitted to new homes why not just keep them empty, that way , if no one is living in them , when they suddenly spontaneously combust into flames no one will get hurt.

Edit - FW managed to slide one in there answering my question before i asked it. And there was me thinking crystal balls were only available in the story books.

Very good, until your last sentence. Traditionally a fabric, the pattern quickly became popular as a paper once paper making techniques advanced.
Damask thus has a timeless appeal, and does not indicate any one century, unlike, say, a Thomas the Tank paper.
