Damaged red brickwork

I can't see repair mortar giving an acceptable finish. I think it would come out looking a very flat colour. It would be a bit like painting them again. One of the nice things about brick, even nice quality facing brick is the slight variation that the natural clay and slight differences in firing gives leading to the attractive texture and colour of brick. If you look at a wall built of modern red engineering bricks that are all exactly the same colour and with a slightly shiny finish, it never looks so nice as it is such a flat colour.

I would agree with those wise words. It would also be a really time consuming job and expensive job. The mortar is really designed for a few small repairs, although there are some render systems done to mimic brickwork.

Hi, in terms of mortar, we are only talking about the recesses on the first floor windows. so not a vast area.


The sample brick slips arrived today and it's a pretty good match



This is the front garden wall, which was also sand blasted, but had never been rendered. If the façade had come out like that I would be happy

It is very common here in Peterborough to have either semis where both houses have a side access to the garden, each one shared with the (detached from it) house next door, or in my case there is a common way at ground floor and joined above. If that makes sense...
So on the left in the picture, there is a vaulted alley way that accesses both my back garden and that of the house to the left.
