We're in exactly the same situation, Sonya (well, not exactly the same - we'll only have two of 'em to deal with) and will definitely be going for the blinds + dress curtains solution.
In due course I'll be asking advice about adding some sort of insulation to the (probably Roman) blinds.

I'm going to try to source material from abroad. We just have too many windows to deal with and the cost will be astronomical. The septic tank went in today and will be finished on Friday. The archeologist did. It find anything of note other than a seam of slate at bottom of the pit. The electrician is doing the first fix in the kitchen tomorrow and Thursday. Heating engineer still not got us switched on. Weeks and weeks behind schedule.

Thanks Jose, I knew you'd come up trumps with this one . If you ever fancy a trip to Whitby (when we've got the frivoloties like a toilet/ floors/ roof etc) can you please advise on warm window dressings? We have inherited a double wardrobe full of wool blankets so maybe we can pass on our excess to Sonya :lol:

I have no more need to wear striped pyjamas than you have to wear skin coloured pinky beige ones. The stripes.... are underneath!

I bet Zebra was involved in this little prank somehow, they say in the report that it was "boys" but my guess is that it was just a cunning disguise, same idea as those big feet in the original picture. Overshoes popped round the hooves, designed to leave big scary tracks that will deter a predator from following. She's a very smart girl our Zebra, it's why she's still here and not lion snack.

I looked at the link but not at all the links in the link. My local fabric shop sells a variety of curtain linings, one of which is basically quilted with a blackout layer (very densely woven poly cotton IIRC) somehow bonded to a layer of acrylic fluff about 3-4 mm thick, with a layer of thin cotton on the other side of it. It wasn't terribly expensive either, I think about £8 per meter?
