Search for "Bronzing" in your browser. Also try "cannings" or cannings + lacquer or cannings + bronzing.
My Grandfather and Great Grandfathers were expert bronzers, I only ever helped to clean up and relacquer brass work. (My grandfather did 110 of the original Underground station Bronze and enamel roundels)
If I remember correctly it involves corrosive chemicals, either ammonia or Nitric acid. If you go into central London (West End, or City) and have a look around you will see many old banks and institutions still have bronzed brasswork. You can bronze brass, not sure about copper. Seeing as Brass is 70 copper you probably can.
Try the cannings search, they are an original metal coating company, from Birmingham I think, we used to use thier lacquers, they may do bronzing or can tell you how to do it.
