Just force of habit really. In the hot place I keep anything "open" in the fridge. We get the occasional exploratory ant, and if they find something that's in any way delicious they organise a big ant party with all their friends. Very annoying. Particularly as I regard them as sort of ok-ish pests that don't get the chemical treatment and have to just be encouraged to go away.

I'd sooner have a cottage than a whopping great place like some in this thread!

Spent all Friday cleaning and preparing for guests, spent all today cleaning and tidying up after guests - can't imagine if the children had trailed their chaos through all those dozens of rooms - 4 bed is work enough!

Yes I suppose I'd have staff in such a place but the very idea of living in co operation with them fills me with horror!
