I'm 6 months into a 1704 farmhouse restoration which has been badly mistreated over years and it amazes me that the range of conflicting advice I have been given over this time - some of which could have done some real damage to the house.

This is so true. We all have horror stories which is why this site is so useful.

Despite it being a farm, apparently the soil was not very good for growing crops so they supplemented their income with pottery. The little cupboard was sandwiched between the inglenook fireplace and a bread oven behind it so was ideal for use as a kiln. The previous owner found the bread oven when renovating the shower room and it has now been restored and resides in the local museum - not the house unfortunately.

As you can see from the blog, which needs updating I've gone from knowing nothing about cob to being quite confident working with it over the last 4 months.
